| Day 1, Wed. LONDON-CALAIS, FRANCE-BRUSSELS, BELGIUM. Meet your tour director and traveling companions at the Novotel, Shortlands, London W6, and depart at 8 a.m. Drive through the orchards of Kent and then enjoy an exciting Hoverspeed ride across the Channel to France. On through Flanders to Brussels, proud capital of Belgium and the European Union. Your orientation drive focuses on Grand' Place with its Baroque guild houses and Gothic Town Hall, and famous Mannekin-Pis. Tonight join your tour director for a toast to happy touring. (D) |

| Day 2, Thu. BRUSSELS-AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND. Into the Netherlands and past the busy seaport of Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Visit a major DIAMOND CENTER to appreciate how a rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling jewel. Then leisurely Dutch-style sightseeing aboard a glass-roofed launch gliding through the city's maze of canals. Afternoon free. | Day 3, Fri. AMSTERDAM-RHINELAND, GERMANY. A passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the locale of A Bridge Too Far on the way to Germany. During your early lunchtime break in Cologne visit the awesome twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then the afternoon's highlight: a cruise on the romantic Rhine, past castle-crested cliffs, terraced vineyards, and trim, half-timbered towns. | Day 4, Sat. RHINELAND-LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND. A scenic day! Morning in the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of the Black Forest, renowned for its cuckoo clocks. On the Swiss border take your pictures of the thundering RHINE FALLS, then continue to picture-book Lucerne. (BB.D) |

| Day 5, Sun. LUCERNE. Sightseeing features Thorwaldsen's LION MONUMENT, the famous covered WOODEN BRIDGE, and rows of ornate patrician houses lining the cobbled streets of the walled Old Town. Afterwards shop for Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a mountain by cable car; take a cruise on the fjord-like lake; sign up for a folklore party with yodeling and alphorn blowing for a first-hand impression of alpine merrymaking. | Day 6, Mon. LUCERNE-LIECHTENSTEIN-INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. Morning break in the pocket-sized principality of Liechtenstein. On over scenic Arlberg Pass to Innsbruck, Austria's Olympic winter sports resort. Take a pleasant walk through quaint medieval lanes to Emperor Maximilian's Golden Roof. (BB.D) |

| Day 7, Tue. INNSBRUCK-VENICE, ITALY. The spectacular Brenner Pass leads through the barrier of the Tyrolean Alps to Italy. Enter Venice in style as you glide by private boat along the Giudecca canal to meet your resident expert. Highlights of your walking tour are St. Mark's Square, the Clock Tower, the BYZANTINE BASILICA with its 1,000-year-old gem-studded gold altar piece, lavish Doges' Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch skilled GLASS BLOWERS fashion their delicate objects. Afterwards wander at whim or join an optional gondola serenade. (BB,D) |

| Day 8, Wed. VENICE-ROME. Along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea towards Ravenna, then inland on the scenic road through the Apennine Hills to peaceful Assisi. | Day 9, Thu. ROME. Sightseeing with your local guide starts with vistas of the beautiful Piazza Venezia and a stroll along the Via Sacra at the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman legions marched in triumph; then pass the Colosseum and hear about gladiatorial combats and early Christian martyrdom; finally proceed via Circus Maximus and across the Tiber to see monumental ST. PETER'S SQUARE AND BASILICA. There's also plenty of time for independent activities and exciting optional excursion possibilities: the Sistine Chapel (arranged next morning if closed today), Tivoli, and an Italian feast at one of the fine restaurants. | Day 10, Fri. ROME-FLORENCE. An easy morning drive back north to Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. See magnificent SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and the sculpture-studded Signoria Square. To top it off, admire Michelangelo's celebrated David in the GALLERY OF FINE ARTS. Take a moment to check out the enticing shops with Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry. (BB,D) |

| Day 11, Sat. FLORENCE-MONACO-NICE, FRANCE. Focus on Pisa this morning for pictures of its amazing Leaning Tower, 180 feet high and 16 feet out of the perpendicular. Then a scenic drive past a string of Italian and French Riviera resorts to the principality of Monaco. Here leave the highway for the panoramic Moyenne Corniche. Before arriving in Nice visit one of the PERFUME FACTORIES for which the area is famous. Optional outing tonight to the Casino of Monte Carlo. (BB) |

| Day 12, Sun. NICE. COTE D'AZUR EXCURSION. Follow the glittering shores of the Cote d' Azur to Cannes of film festival fame. On the inland route back to Nice visit the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Then a lazy afternoon to dabble in the blue Mediterranean or stroll along the elegant Promenade des Anglais. | Day 13, Mon. NICE-LYON. Through the sun-drenched landscapes of Van Gogh's beloved Provence to Avignon, an important spiritual center in the Middle Ages and the residence of several antipopes. Take your pictures of the Gothic papal palace and the bridge of the popular song before proceeding through the orchards of the Rhone Valley to Lyon, the country's second largest city. (BB,D) |

| Day 14, Tue. LYON-PARIS. Board the famous TGV, the high-speed train that whisks you to Paris in time for lunch. This afternoon discover the beautiful capital of France. Your city tour will show you the sights on both banks of the Seine: Arc de Triomphe, Opera, Madeleine, Louvre, Champs-Elysees... For a bird's-eye view take the elevator to the first floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Of course you also visit Paris' greatest treasure, the Gothic cathedral of NOTRE DAME with its gleaming stained-glass windows. (BB) |

| Day 15, Wed. PARIS. A full day at leisure for you to explore this vibrant city at your own pace. This afternoon you may want to join an optional excursion to the palace and gardens of Versailles.
