| The Eastern part of the Erie Canal commences with Oneida Lake and soon the Canal joins the Mohawk River. Long pounds with evenly spaced Iocks make for easy cruising. Each lock is manned by a lock-master who will be proud to show you the carefully restored lock machinery, all is shining brass. The river winds its way through as attractive valley where lush farm lands alter-nate with dense forests whose brilliant Fall colours make late season cruising a delight Towns such as Canajoharie and Shenectady remind us that this area was inhabited by Indian tribes and much of American history was written here. Finally a steep staircase of locks leads into the Hudson River and its northern extension, the beau-tiful Champlain Canal. |

| The clean waters of the lakes, rivers and canals of Ireland are well stocked with fish of every variety. It is a fisherman's paradise. With the right equipment and a little local advice you can expect to catch trout, perch and bream in surprising quantities. Near a little island or the reedy shore of a lake you may even be lucky enough to catch one of those wonderful fighting fish, the pike. So with patience even a beginner will bring home a good catch. And, better still, fishing is free all year round. |
